The UK Global Talent Visa

Eligibility, Requirements & How to Apply
Overview

The UK Global Talent visa is for recognised leaders (“Exceptional Talent”) and emerging leaders (“Exceptional Promise”) in:
  • Arts and Culture – including film, television, fashion, architecture, literature, dance, and other creative fields.
  • Academia and Research – across all disciplines.
  • Digital Technology – including tech innovation, product design, and development.
This route offers greater flexibility than most work visas, as it does not require a job offer or employer sponsorship.
Eligibility

Applicants must obtain an endorsement from an approved endorsing body:
  • Arts Council England – for arts and culture, including film and television.
  • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) – for academia and research.
  • Digital Technology – currently awaiting the appointment of a new endorsing body following the closure of Tech Nation.
There are two endorsement categories:
  1. Exceptional Talent – for recognised leaders in their field.
  2. Exceptional Promise – for individuals who have shown significant potential to become leaders.
Key Benefits

  • No requirement for a job offer or Certificate of Sponsorship.
  • Freedom to work for any employer, change jobs, or be self-employed.
  • Pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in 3 years (for Exceptional Talent) or 5 years (for Exceptional Promise).
  • Ability to bring dependants (partner and children under 18).
Application ProcessEndorsement Application

  1. Submit your endorsement application to the relevant body with evidence of achievements and recognition in your field.
  2. Visa Application
  3. Once endorsed, apply to the Home Office for the Global Talent visa.
  4. Decision
  5. Most applications are processed within 3–8 weeks.
Evidence Required

The documents will vary by sector but may include:
  • Awards, prizes, or recognitions in your field.
  • Media coverage of your work.
  • Letters of recommendation from recognised organisations or experts.
  • Examples of work, publications, or contributions to major projects.
Settlement

After meeting the residence requirement (3 or 5 years depending on the endorsement type), applicants can apply for ILR, and later for British citizenship.
